Treasures from Martha

Would you look at what I got for free this weekend???

A while back, our  friends Kristie and Erich were visiting, and they decided that the old sewing machine
that they inherited from Mean Aunt Martha needed to live at my house.  I think this may have belonged to Martha's mother, and it has seen a lot of use over the years.

The drawers are still full of notions....threads, seam binding, needles...I just kept clapping my hands! I don't think Kristie was into musty, dusty what nots.  I am so into them!  Each of the drawers has this pretty carving on it!

And to top it all off, Kristie threw in a basket full of these lovelies. She was tired of them and knew I would give them a good home. They were pretty dusty so I just unrolled the first layer off and low and behold,
under all that dusty calico......WHITE!

I got pretty excited thinking about covering a few of them with some strips of muslin and other off white textured fabrics in my stash!  I have been wanting to make some of these for a while now...ever since I saw the pretty ones that Dawn over at The Feathered Nest makes.  These are made of  strips of old white sheets and such..no styrofoam balls here girls, these were made the old fashioned way!  I tried not to act too excited though, didn't want Kristie to snatch them back!

And get a load of this...three old spools with some really pretty thin yarn wound on them!

. I cannot wait to get these pretties cleaned up and show off their hidden beauty!  It's 100 plus degrees in my garage right now, so I may have to wait until the next cold snap, but stay tuned for the big reveal!

Thank you Kristie and Erich for sharing Martha's treasures with me.  I will take good care of them. I love thinking of all the many things she must have sewed and mended for her family on this machine!

She is sew sew beautiful!

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense." Ralph Waldo Emerson
