Almost There!

We are moving into this house tomorrow.

Here are Mike and Ryan
Master Trim Carpenters
taking a break.

Get back to work
you joksters!

There that's better.
Hopefully there will be carpet in this room by tonight.

Meanwhile....

much packing, taping,and heaving
has taken place
in other quarters.
Just look at the madness.
Who needs this much loot anyway?

I'm thinking about having a nic nac sale
when it cools off.
I have come across many many things
that I don't want to look at anymore.
And I know that they are lurking in those boxes right there.

One of them isn't even lurking.
He is prancing right out in the open.
Take a closer look...can you find him?
There, to the right..let's just zoom in
so that you can all enjoy him with me...

Here he is.
the studly steed..
the bronze wonder..
the bronze horse from the Pearl Market in Bejjing.
Oh the memories.
The dickering.
The hauling.
The packing to get him home.
The horror and embarassment of my children.

Some people like to scrounge in flea markets for
buttons, old lace, old books, old bottles,
you know the score.
Not my man...
He goes for the solid bronze stuff
and will not be stopped.

I'm wondering if it would help to paint him "Heirloom White"?

He moves along with us to his new home
in hub's office closet,
where the children cannot see him and feel mortified and traumatized anymore.

Packing and Moving
always makes me wax nostalgic.
(What does it really mean to Wax Nostalgic, anyway?)

I look at the treasures
and remember
and smile.

When my daughters are all here,
I am going to whip this baby out of the hermetically sealed box,
and put it on and dance around the room,
and then see if I can sell it on Craig's List.
I am tired of hauling it around!
I mean it!

And then there is this.

If you will notice,
all of the boxes in this pile,
even the ones in back that you can't  see,
(trust me they are there)...
are titled

Blee.
That big box in front is full of dance recital costumes.
If she makes me keep these much longer,
I am going to have all the home movies of the
million dance recitals she and her sister were in
made into a cd and show them at all future family gatherings.
I mean it.

See that blue thing in front?
She made two of those for a youth banquet
where her brother and his best friend
dressed up and did a lip sinq
of the "Sisters" number from White Christmas.
Seriously one of my favorite memories.
Heaven only knows what's in those boxes,
but
she is going to go through those things and
PURGE!

I mean it.

Look at this cute little guy.
His poor butt is rubbed raw from
my youngest cuddling him to sleep.
I like to keep him around
for bad days when I need a little cuddle myself.

This room is where the magic happens.
Where the memories live
Where there are around 10 tubs of Leggos.

Seriously.

If you can stand the glare from the ceiling light that hasn't been properly installed yet,
you can look up high and see the old sled that hubs and his siblings played on.
Under that is a chicken coop that we found out in one of my Daddy's barns.
Love that thing...any ideas on what I should do with it?

I gave it a good rubdown with some vinegar and oil
and it perked right up...now I don't know what to do with it...

But I will never, never, never, throw it away.
I mean it.

d

I still have room in here for the 3 desks
and various pieces of furniture that are going in here to wait for
the downstairs carpeting to go in.
Just two bedroom sets, two beds, lamps, tables,
you know,
stuff.

Last night I hauled a CAR LOAD
 of quilts and pillows
and blankets.
When you go from 6 bedrooms down to 3,
you have a lot of pillows.
You know the ones that fill the shams
that just sit there and look pretty under the real pillows,
that you actually put your head on at night...
I think at the nic nac sale there will also be
PILLOWS!

As I was locking up the gate for the night,
I happened to notice a wonderful sight off to the west.

Too lovely words...

Good night bear! Good night fish!

Hot Tired and Happy!

Eee gads!  I just almost burned the pizza
sitting here trying to think of
some clever way to start this post!

Cleverness has signed off for the night,
so I give you
the

bare minimum...

I offer you a peek at the progress going on out at the house
while I am

dumpster diving for boxes
trolling liquor stores for boxes
whining at the grocery store for boxes
and groveling at the office supply store for boxes.

and making piles of very organized stuff
to put into the boxes...
what was I saying?
Oh yes, progress is being made
and craftsmen and craftswomen
are as busy as bees...

Here's the finished fireplace!

Here are the Granite Guys
installing the lovely granite!
I am blown away by the way it blends
so well with the paint color and cabinets!
I was seriously sweating about that decision

but I am in luuuuurve with it!

Here is Zetta working her magic
with the paint brush.
She is the fastest painter and does such a great job
we are so thankful to have gotten her name
and that she was able to help us get
a second coat of paint on all of the woodwork!
There's a lot of woodwork to trim!
Don't you love her mask?

The oil base paint really bugs her
and she wears it all day.
arggh!

Here's the stone work at the bar downstairs.
I wish it didn't have a million doors in there
to clutter things up,
but I was trying to get them out of everyone's way
during the marathon paint finale!

Here is my hero.

Helping everybody, making everything go along smoothly,
scheduling people, gathering supplies,
and working long hard days.

He and I are going to enjoy living in this house
Lord willing.

Oops, it's past my bedtime and I havn't eaten that pizza yet!

Thanking God for air conditioning again tonight!

Night everybody!

The final push...

The next two weeks are going to be
well, let's just say
F.U.L.L.

Granite.
Final finish on hardwoods.
Light fixtures.
Fans.
Paint touchups.
Final filling, sanding and painting on woodwork.
Closets.
Mirrors.
Carpet.
Cleaning.
Packing.
Packing.
Packing.

Tired yet?

Here are a few shots of the action
thus far....

lovely island.
this will be painted a dreamy creamy white
and frosted with a chocolate glaze.
yum.

waiting for the granite frosting.

Soothing bedroom jewelry going up.

I am happy to report that
the fireplace is finished,
just don't have a picture of her
in her finaly glory yet!
Isn't she grand?

This stonework is finished too.
I think someone is behind in
picture taking isn't she?

Guest bathroom.

Thethethethethethat's all folks!

I am supposed to be sanding as we speak
and if anyone asks,
you havn't seen me...

Yesterday as I was vacuuming the last
of the mortar mess from the fireplace stonework,
and wondering just how in the heck
we are going to get everything done
before move-in day..
I was inspired to compose a song.

I work with 2 and 3 year olds at church
so bear with me please...
this won't be performed
by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir
anytime soon!

Song.

When I'm havin a long day,
or I'm havin a hard day...
or I'm havin a sad day..
or I'm having a mad day..

I need to remember....
What it says in the Bible...
I need to remember
with Jesus by my side...

Oh!
I can do all things through
Christ who lives in me...
I can do all things through
Christ who lives in me.
Oh!
I can do all things through
Christ who lives in me

I need to remember that
I can do all things through
Christ who lives in me!

(Repeat all day)

This song has motions too,
if you're not sanding,
or if other adults are not around....

Please pray...we need all the help we can get!
Love
me.

Odds and Ends

I woke up around 5:30 this morning, reliving the many fabulous choices out there in fan and light fixture world.
As I thought my thoughts and wished for more sleep,
I was happy to realize that we are getting closer and closer to the Foof and Fluff stage.

The stage that makes my heart sing!

The Foof and Fluff stage ....there will be no tape measures.

Let me say it again and savor this thought...there will be no tape measures. ( unless I have to ask hubs for help in hanging something, in which case there will most certainly be a tape measure and a level.)

I have some kind of a disease where the incessant use of a tape measure and level grates on my like a finger on a chalk board.  I know that these two things are essential in the building world, but I am growing weary of them. I like to just eyeball things. I like to slap things up and move on. Even if it involves making many holes in the wall. I think it is linked to laziness, but let's not go there, ok?  Anyway, there it is. Level and Plumb, I need you but I hate you and am ready to move on. Now I feel better.

Enough Ranting and Raving.  This has got me on a roll.  I am changing Level and Plumb to Level and Plum because plum is a color and that makes everything more fun doesn't it? I love plum.

Homecoming Day

Today I am sweeping,
and scrubbing,
and sanding
and
PRAYING

for
a little family
of three
who are soaring up in the clouds,
winding their way back home.

We will have them
for a few short months
and will share them
with so many friends and family
who love them too.

I will have to wait a while
to gather them up in my arms,
but until then
I am gathering them up
in my heart,
and praying them home
while I sweep.

Go with God
sweet little family of mine!
"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense." Ralph Waldo Emerson
